Dr Shirley [Mejia-Pantoja] Cavin is an experienced technical leader with extensive experience within technology, automation, aerospace/aviation industries, and research and academic environments. Dr Cavin is the Data Science Manager for the UK Civil Group at Leidos, additionally supports as a Product and Design Manager for the Global Aviation, Air Traffic & Transportation Division at Leidos, serving customers, and stakeholders around the world. Over the past 20 years, Dr Cavin has worked and led several critical projects in a variety of IT and Engineering-related areas, including robotics and industrial automation, and has managed and mentored technical teams and staff, while continuing her passion for research and development within the science, engineering and IT industries.

Dr Cavin holds a BSc (Hons) in Computer Sciences and Engineering, MSc in Computing and Business and PhD in Advanced Manufacturing and Operations Management from The University of Nottingham (Russell Group Universities, UK), IBM Data Science Certifications and Other Qualifications. Dr Cavin has published various academic papers in the fields of Advanced Manufacturing and Automation, Knowledge Management and Technology Roadmapping for the Aerospace Industry and other High-Tech Industries. This includes a recent academic collaboration as a co-author of the book “Managing Technological Innovation: Tools and Methods” Volume 1, World Scientific Publication (Official Publisher of the Nobel Prize Series).

Dr Cavin is an active member of the scientific and engineering community in the UK and abroad, throughout her work–related and academic activities. Dr Cavin is a STEM ambassador participating and collaborating in community activities (such as school and university activities, forums, seminars, work experiences, and others) encouraging young people and students towards the disciplines of data, sciences and engineering.
